Kaba Modern and Jabbawockeez 4th Performance

So I manage to watch the whole show on TV…for once! Taeko (aka Koi Fish) from Fish and Chicks is pretty hot. She always ends her performances with a little extra nuance of sass.

KABA

I actually enjoyed this performance more than the past few ones. If I had to guess, it was probably Mike who came up with the “hey” choreography in the beginning. It seems to be the pattern that the one responsible for the choreography is usually front and center….plus, the head moving side to side on a pendulum swing seems to be his thing.

At first, I thought the added “challenge” was just stupid. They should just let the dance crews do their thing. Eh, I still think it was dumb. Fish and Chicks probably had the hardest one…doing their choreography in rewind motion.

Even though Kaba’s lack of difficulty in “lifting” was true…it didn’t really matter because everything else was very entertaining, especially the facial expressions. Plus, when you probably have a whole University voting for you…it doesn’t matter what the judges say anyways. I still think one of Kaba’s strength is their transitions from dance style to dance style…it just shows off their range.

Note: They should of done the lift in this Video at (oo:1 8)

JABBA

JC is pretty articulate as a judge but I don’t think he should try so hard in looking for flaws just because it’s week 4…especially when the “walking” is part of the slow-mo choreography.

Kaba vs. Jabba this week…I’d have to go with Kaba for personal enjoyment.

Breaksk8.

I know a lot of people have been impressed with their “dancing” on skates but when you have a show titled the “Best Dance Crew,” the main focus should be on the dancing itself. Their supporters seem to be distracted by their skates, thinking it gives them an edge because of it’s level of difficulty. While it is probably hard to do what they do on skates…it doesn’t really mean anything. If they were to take off their wheels and just do their routines using Nikes, they’d have a much easier time.

So basically, the whole roller skates is a gimmick because they are giving themselves a handicap by putting those wheels on their own feet. It’s not that their moves are hard, it’s that they made easy moves harder. If they had missing limbs and used wheels to make up for what they lack, then it would be a different story.

I wish them the best, off the show.

Jabbawockeez 2005 showcase

It’s curious that they aren’t competing on the international level more often. They dance far better than most international crews out there because they aren’t focused on just using their legs to do top rocks and their arms for power moves. They can mix things up and play with the music, especially for the showcases. However, they do need a few power guys so they can beat the tar out of Korea, France, and whichever crew bboy Ronnie is on. I really hope they consider entering BOTY or some UKBBOY events.

Those shiny Doctor Doom masks are pretty bad ass. They should wear those on the MTV show….and dim the lights as well.

Rino & Kollaboration…

Whoa..it’s a small world. Someone I known since Junior High is marrying Rino Nakasone.

The Wedding Website

Talk about random news that pops out nowhere on Google Search. Anyways, the guy is a lucky bastard. Gratz! I remember LeeJ as being really funny and…I think my cousin told me he’s one of the original Ipod..ummm…shadow models and worked on a Missy Elliott music video .(I think he was one of the “Chinese” boys in it…even though he’s Pinoy) Lucky bastard indeed…especially with someone who moves like her.

I was also at a potluck (I made ribs) staff meeting yesterday for Kollaboration and found out that Ben Chung of Jabbawokeez was part of the staff for two years. It just goes to show, Kollaboration really does help Asian Americans in different ways. So there’s pretty much two Kollaboration all-stars competing on that Randy Jackson MTV dance show. Also, Kollaboration 8 is completely sold out…so PK was really happy about that.

Kaba Modern 3rd Performance

Looks like MTV is listening to the complaints…no more crappy camera angles. I certainly hope Mike and Yuri adds a medley of choreography that pays homage to some old school Kpop. That would be pretty out of the blue for the judges and entertaining para mi.

I watched them perform last night after coming home from a night out in Ktown..and it wasn’t very entertaining the first time. The 2nd time I watched it, sober….it looked a whole lot different. haha…it was a nice performance though.

As much as I like Kaba…Jabba ftw…

Ben Chung

Jeez…I was pulling for the Kaba Mordern to win the whole thing, but considering Ben Chung is a Kaba Modern alumni and….

With all the experience the Jabbawockeez seem to have and that guy helping out with their choreography….Kaba Modern better pull something out way beyond their young years and really “kill it” tonight.
