Jenny, Juno = Juno (2007)?

vs.

Rumours arose about the similarities of Jenny, Juno to a 2007 American comedy film, Juno, which also deals with teenage pregnancy and features a character with the name Juno (a girl). The film’s screenwriter, Diablo Cody, commented on the coincidence in October 2007, stating that she had been unaware of the existence of Jenny, Juno prior her own film’s release. She said that, although she had not yet watched Jenny, Juno, she was interested in seeing it.[3]

Hmm, I don’t know….Juno is a rather rare name, even if it’s for a movie’s title. There’s nothing wrong with at least admitting inspiration even if the story ends up being completely different.  Well, it’s a possibility that it’s pure coincidence.

bull crap, Juno is rare, and the title should have been
Juno = Jenny Juno? not the otherway around,
    the variable is assigned a pre-existing value/equation.

Diablo Cody tells lies that can embarrass even the Devil. ‘Jenny, Juno’ was made in 2005 and hers is a 2007 production.

The basic plotline is similar beyond coincidence.

The title of the her movie puts all reasonable doubt to rest…only a charlatan can carry on insisting otherwise.

Why does she not just admit it…

    similarities,

    ************************SPOILERS********************

    1. The obvious pregnant teenage thing.

    2. The names being the same and I know in the K-film version Juno is the guy

    3. In the Korean version the male character writes in chalk for Jenny he writes in chalk “I love you Jenny” In “Juno” she writes in chalk on his front step “Check the mail Bleeker”

    4. In the opening scene both characters take a home pregnancy test in both films.

5.. Bleeker runs track competitively and the Korean Juno plays a video game in a high level competition, slightly different but same theme.

    6. both films have a cute, geeky male lead and are subordinate to dominate women.

    7. In the K-film the boy asks to carry her backpack and she refuses, same thing in “Juno”

I haven’t seen the Juno film… but I should say I rea lly enjoyed Jenny Juno. Especially as I am a Nursing Student and I have a lot of experience with teenage moms, both in the ward and in the delivery roo. Some of my friends are also teenage mothers.

When I first heard about the movie “Juno” I immediately thought of “Jenny Juno”. It’s quite obvious “Juno” was influenced by “Jenny Juno”. c’mon…who comes up with the name Juno from out of the blue? Plus, the storyline is basically the same. “JENNY JUNO” came out BEFORE “Juno”. Face the facts.

  6. 6 BrianP February 3, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Diablo Cody started writing Juno in November of 2004. The Korean flick wasn’t released even in Korea until February of 2005. Them is some facts to face.

  7. 7 Tina February 25, 2008 at 4:38 am

bullsh#t…she can claim she wrote the script before Jenny-Juno’s dubut..but the facts are that the script for Jenny-Juno was written way before 2005 for it to be released in 2005 and she could have gotten her ideas from coincidently stumbling on it..cuz i know i heard of the movie Jenny-Juno when it was first in production long ago..she should grow some balls and man up to her ripping off the movie..plus the name Juno is of japanese origin..how does someone name Diablo Cody comes up with that out of nowhere?? duh!!!

I have a great idea for a movie called “The Ring Lord” In this movie, 6 elves have to travel to this gigantic chasm to destroy a necklace that threatens to enslave the world if the evil lord Saurus gets his hand on it.

What, I’ve never even heard of the movie, “The Lord of the Rings” but I’m interested in seeing it. Anyways, my movie is different because its elves who need to destroy a necklace not hobbits who need to destroy a ring.

Now, the question is. Is my movie a ripoff or is it pure coincidence?

Come on, I can’t believe Diablo Cody can claim something like that. It hurts to see how corrupted hollywood is.

to brianp, of course if people start saying that I ripped off a movie, i would obviously say I started writing it before the other movie came out. and also, in november I’m sure there would be trailers out for the jenny, juno movie

  10. 10 bot February 25, 2008 at 12:47 pm

that cody diablo just won an academy award for original screenwright

    right

  11. 11 ashley February 29, 2008 at 3:48 pm

well . . .when i first heared about the movie juno . . . at once i thought ìs it a remake of jenny, juno? because they are so similar
    i don’t think it’s coincidence

If Juno is a rip off of Jenny and Juno and it sounds like Diablo Coty was presented with their similarities in October. So I’m sure it must have made the papers then why did she still win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay?

  13. 13 jaden March 6, 2008 at 11:50 pm

HOW MANY AMERICAN MOVIES ARE REMAKES OF ASIAN FILMS? hmm…let me see…the ring, lake house, shutter, missed call, the eye, pulse, the grudge, dark water…dang, would anyone else like to add to the list? maybe juno should be added on too… =)

  14. 14 lionel May 4, 2008 at 9:08 am

Anyway, there is more none similar things than similar things ;)

The young couple dont hide the baby, parents are agree,.
Juno look for parents for his baby.
The story about the adoption with the father is very importante too.

Then, the only similar thing is the age of young people and they have a baby. that s all.

with the frequency that American script writers are copying Asian cinema this is no mere coincidence. What about Infernal Affairs, with Edison Chen? Ask any regular person and they would think that The Departed was it’s own original movie. And all this crap about The Ring, The Eye, The Grudge, and the Il Mar “Lake House” dammit America, is it too damn hard to be original and make your own damn movie? American script writers probably just buy the rights to redo it and make no mention that it’s a complete rip off of another movie. That is American CAPITALISM for you.

  16. 16 christian polinag June 7, 2008 at 10:39 am

its definitely a ripped off..only a fool woould think otherwise!

  17. 17 Rich July 27, 2008 at 2:38 am

Dang it! give credit to Korean film makers! tsk tsk. American capitalism, agreed. Go Canada!=) lol.

Dang right, when i first saw and heard about the film ‘juno’ i thought that maybe jenny and juno was sooooo good that it went global, BUT NO. Things never turn out the right way, juno is a good film but to compare it with the asian ORIGINAL there is no doubt JENNY AND JUNO rocks so much more. In addition all my english friends are like “OMG. I LOVE JUNO <3 YEAH. INNIT. BRAP.” While i’m like “NO. JUNO IS JUST A RIP OFF DUMBASSES”. Even though i get their point on why they would like juno, STILLLL, they wouldn’t bother to watcth the asian version since reading subtitles are just too hard for them. christ. Jenny and Juno came out first, so Ha. In people’s faces. Big nothing. Even if they say they wrote Juno first, how the hell is some japanese person is gonna fly to america and just find that person and hack into their computer and plagurise?? Even though i do make it sound very convincing indeed…

    *cough*

“JUNO IS A COPY CAT NE-NE-NE-NE-NEEE”

  19. 19 taro shimada October 26, 2008 at 1:30 pm

JUNO is just a copycat from JENNY and JUNO!!! that’s what I think!!! There is no such thing as pure coincidence!!! *WTF?!

I can’t believe they’re trying to outdo Asian movies by copying it and saying that it is actually original?! Face it… reality bites, darling! Juno is a copy…

  20. 20 JooBear Lover November 1, 2008 at 12:18 am

NOTICE that in Jenny, Juno and Juno, the thing about safe color bleach is mentioned. that OBVIOUSLY show that Diablo Cody copied a line directly from the Korean movie.

    MUCH COINCIDENCE THERE?

  21. 21 vickstahs November 23, 2008 at 5:03 am

Argh, Cody is such a liar. Ffs, it would have made her appear at least half decent if she just admited she stole the idea from the Korean movie.

  22. 22 bobbingup December 8, 2008 at 6:14 am

Just as I suspected. Juno ripped off Jenny, Juno.

  23. 23 Sammie March 13, 2009 at 5:26 pm

When I heard about the Hollywood movie “Juno”, I’ve instantly thought of the Korean Movie “Jenny, Juno”… It’s too much of a coincidence to use JUNO as a name and have the same plot…

It’s nothing new anyway… There are already lots of Asian movies turned Hollywood… Though sorry too say, they’re not as good of course…

    The Ring
    The Eye
    Shutter
    The Grudge
    My Sassy Girl
    One Missed Call

    I can’t think of anything anymore…

What I don’t like about it is Diablo Cody claiming that it’s an original… I really don’t believe it…

  24. 24 David July 16, 2009 at 2:53 am

Anyone who thinks Juno is a complete rip off of Jenny, Juno seriously havent seen both movies or need to rewatch them carefully.

The only similarities I saw was the similarity were the title and a story dealing with pregnant teenagers.
Its like saying Heroes is a complete ripoff of XMEN just because both deals with superpowers.

  25. 25 Siclo Gang July 30, 2009 at 6:35 am

you guys, most of you were right.
You figured out the similarity betw~n Korean’s and America’s one.

I was in Korea at that time year 2005 when the korean film was published…
And several month later from the time,
I read a article at Korean portal media via internet saying
“Jenny and Juno’s remaking right was sold to Hollywood for some money.”.
I think my saying should be a obvious conclusion.
