Jamie Chung has joined Justin Chatwin and James Marsters in Fox’s “Dragonball,” the live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese comic.
James Wong is directing the science fiction action-adventure, which centers on an adult humanoid alien named Goku (Chatwin) who, after discovering he was sent to Earth to destroy the population, tries to fulfill the wish of his dying grandfather and collect all seven of the world’s mystical Dragon Balls to keep them out of the hands of the evil aliens.
Chung will play Chi Chi, the love interest of Goku when he’s growing up. (more)
I don’t think it’s funny that Jamie Chung is playing Chi Chi. I liked her persona on the Real World and she needs to do what she needs to to make a living in the entertainment world. I just find it funny in a sad way that Goku is a white dude…and normally, I could care less about stuff like that but for crying out loud, it’s a Japanese manga. I know someone might say…”yeah, but Goku is from outerspace….” True, but it’s a Japanese manga…
So basically, the Hollywood stereotype continues. Caucasian hero, Asian love interest…..and if Piccolo was an Asian guy underneath ugly green make-up, the trinity of Asian stereotypes in Hollywood would be complete.

Sigh, Americans keep wanting to mess with Asian movies. and this time, it’s worse… they are messing with ANIME. wtf?! most of those things in there will NEVER happen…
Yeah, there’s superheroes…but their cast already cracks me up. so not only is it gonna be completely horrendous to explain, but then they’re gonna have all kinda of crazy-non-asian people and crazy special effects?
I already predict that they are gonna put too much into this movie… which in turn will make it a flop

half the characters in dragonball z had blond hair and blue eyes. you’re so anti-white people, dude. get over it. at least hollywood is taking notice of korean films such as old boy and my sassy girl. if asian culture can influence here in the states, even just a little, i’m all for it. of course, it will never be good as the original but at least they’re taking notice, which is a start in the right direction. if “departed” was remade here with asian cast, it would’ve been a complete flop. not only you don’t have a clue to marketing but most of your entries are so against everything non-asian…. be more open minded.

As for Hollywood paying attention to Korean Films, the world has already been paying attention to Korean films. It’s a matter of doing Korean films justice like what the Tale of Two Sisters remake has the potential of doing. I know a hell load of shit about DBZ, and Dragonball, as Ive seen practically every episode except the GT ones.
And slace, if the movie have any asian people in it, it would suck. I can see no way of vegeta being asian. Chi-Chi or like Yamcha, sure, but not Goku or like Bulma. Since when the hell do asian people have blue eyes and blonde hair. And I just cant stand asian screams when they charge up to super sayin, it sounds like someone chopping their balls off.

Anyways the storyline is already fucked up i could care less bout this movie also before someone flames me look up all wat i said then flame away i could care less.

Super saiyans eyes are green!
Sure, the Saiyans are aliens but that still doesn’t mean the main character has to be played by a white dude.
I can picture Steven Chow playing the role fine because he can portray Goku’s carefree nature. Only downside is Chow’s age, but makeup does wonders.
As for Chatwin, I don’t know… he had emo roles in War of the Worlds and The Invisible, so going to have to see if he can protray Goku’s character.
As for the hair and eye color… Goku’s regular form has black hair and eyes… The whole movie is set in a fantasy world, so an Asian guy having blonde hair and green eyes is just as weird as having a white guy playing a role of a character who is from an Asian manga and speaking Japanese.
Please don’t say, “but only white people has green eyes and blonde hair!” This is a movie afterall, not the real world.
