I guess if there’s one thing that the Korean Wave can’t influence is it’s own society. After reading the entry and the comments given by others, South Korean cops are still pigs and their justice system is still asshole glorious. No wonder there has been such on going pull for Korea’s society to be more humane toward foreigners…
Winters…an American law student here in Korea, described the attack in detail on her mini homepage. Two years ago, she returned one night to her one-room apartment to find that an unknown man had broken into her home through a window. When she froze up, the attacker rushed her and beat her about the face.
Luckily, as the assailant went to the kitchen to get a knife, she was able to escape to the bathroom. She locked herself in and called the police, but when police arrived, the attacker had already fled.
The attack left her with a cerebral hemorrhage, a fractured skull and a broken nose.
When she got to the hospital, however, she was forced to undergo further humiliation. The hospital mistook her for a Russian prostitute, and did not treat her injuries properly. She was apparently told that the hospital could not move her to an intensive care unit until she proved she wasn’t a prostitute. (Because not helping an injured prostitute is the right thing to do.)
…She’s now preparing to become an international lawyer so that there will be no more victims like her, and that it was hard to find sex crime facilities for foreign women in Korea or English-speaking psychologists.
The “S” and “K” in S.Korea sure seems to stand for Stupid and Korrupt lately….Anyways, one good thing about this blog entry is through shirasony who had a similiar experience..but got some retribution:
I’m a white American woman who, unfortunately, is not blond, slim, nor attractive and was assaulted while exiting a subway station in Seoul some time ago. I immediately called my husband (a Korean national)after it happened and met him at the local police station. The police officer, (apparently the detail that the person helping me file a complaint was my husband did not register) commented that “why should he care … she’s a foreigner! (after saying that her) husband proceeded to punch the officer in the mouth! Since my husband is also in law enforcement and out-ranked him I received an apology from the station commander and (they did) a follow-up on the assault. (they found out that) 15 women (Korean and western) were attacked; the man was picked up and charged and committed to a mental hospital.
Also, Winters makes a blog appearance:
Koreans have all reacted very supportive. As far as I know, no one has really said anything bad about it. The surprising thing is how many admit that the system is fucked up or who have experienced similar mistreatment themselves.
On the other hand, I know for a fact that another member who wrote on a blog defending me and my story and expressing her outrage over the lack of coverage due to the jamila saga is currently getting reemed by “anti-fans.” It is just so terrible that people cannot recognize what is important. Entertainment is entertainment, but real issues are real issues…
….All people don’t really get the true meaning of what relevancy this issue has to their lives until their lives are affected by it. I am sure the family of the girl murdered by the same man I am convinced attacked me understands it. Some day all of those others will too.
And yes, I sincerely hope to get laws changed here, among other things. It has been my goal since day one , not only to get victim’s rights laws passed, but also to have rape crisis/victim’s rights centers established, standardized SANE hospital screening , among others. Channels of accountability is what needs to happen here in Korea.
Stupid cops and rapists in Korea, there is just no difference between the two because they end up working together. This is just one of those things that makes me want to go South Korea and smack everyone upside the head and say, “what the f*ck is wrong with you?” I applaud Winter for what she’s doing and using whatever means necessary to make a difference because it sure doesn’t seem like Korea is going to do it itself. The cops didn’t even bother taking a strand of hair for DNA sampling until the US embassy got involved…..freaking incompetent douche bags.
my personal experience isn’t nearly as bad as what they went through…. but there is a real sense u get from some people there that if you weren’t born and raised there, ur not one of them… so u aren’t really a person
…and that’s why stupid people should be fixed so they don’t spread their dumb genes around.
I guess you rearlly hate my country. I live in Canada more than 20 years and i can tell you that canadian legal system is fucked up too, oh well, look around the world!
You only see one side of the world!
It happens to everywhere!!!
So please don’t bring your racism and talk about more about the progress.
p.s I saw her ( Winter Raymond) on tv, she is actually a pretty lady and classy.
john, why is that people like you have no idea what you’re talking about and yet you still speak? Before you throw a word like “racism” around…figure out how to use it.
Moron.
Hey what’s matter with you? People like you are called the failure of the society. They always complaining and criticize the society as you described well. It’s very understandable that you made such comments since you are far away to be civilized person. Oh also! you seemed to be very angry what i have said in your stupid blog or whatever but that’s only one opinion of mine. Therefore, everytime you open your dirty mouth, try to respect other people’s opinion!!!
Got it you Moron…. kkkk!!!
practice what you preach….KKKK?
There’s nothing worse than a moron who hides from what’s wrong and makes excuses. I don’t respect your opinion because you don’t know how to use the words you use.
Please try to bring up something instructive!
You know how we call people like you ” Social Outcast”.
It’s too sad that you live in your own Hell !!!
I won’t waste my time to argue what’s wrong and right.
I’m just saying that one day you could appreciate the essence of life. Life is not ugly as you think!!!
P.s Good Luck!!!
I see you typing, but all you say is “blahblahblah.”
